Is there really that much difference in Air Conditioner Sound Levels?

Is there really that much difference in Air Conditioner Sound Levels?

We're glad you asked!

Because the answer is most definitely YES! Until recently, noisy air conditioners were accepted as the norm. High noise levels were even associated with the ³power² of cooling systems. But today¹s technology let you chose an air conditioner that is not only highly efficient, but also exceptionally quiet.

How is sound measured?

Sound is measured in decibels (db). A decibel describes the relative loudness of a sound.

Why is a sound rating important?

Although no financial savings are tied to it, the sound rating of a cooling system can directly affect your comfort. Your ears tell you what is too noisy, and what seems quiet. Common household noises are a blender 88db, garbage disposal 80db, dishwasher 75db and normal voice at 70db. Obviously, the sound an air conditioner makes depends on a variety of factors, not the least of which is the age of the unit and whether or not the compressor is insulated. On average the noise level of air conditioners rate somewhere between a dishwasher and garbage disposal.

Are all air conditioners quiet?

Most cooling systems manufactured today are quieter that those produced in past years. But there is still a great difference in the sound levels of products on the market today. Be sure to compare sound rating when you shop for a new air conditionerS your good night¹s sleep depends on it.

Designed to be quiet

Insulated compressor compartments, discharged mufflers, two speed fans, unique fan designs work to soften the air flow noise. Top-panel orifices, compressor wrappers are further enhancements. Purchasing an air conditioner with a low sound rating will make you feel cool and comfortableS without even hearing your air conditioner.
